Surrender
I've been thinking about the idea of surrender.
For a long time, it meant giving up.
Defeat. Weakness. Throwing in the towel.
But what if surrender isn't actually about giving up?
What if it's about loosening our grip?
Giving up the need to control the outcome?
That is a very different thing.
Especially in leadership.
We're conditioned to do.
Solve the problem. Make the decision. Have the conversation. Create the plan. Move things forward.
And sometimes, we start to believe it's all on us.
Yes, that's part of the job. But so is knowing when you've done what you're supposed to do.
Knowing when to pass the baton.
You've prepared. You've communicated. You've made the decision. You've done the work.
Now what?
Sometimes we keep pushing. Managing. Forcing. Predicting.
We tell ourselves we're being responsible.
But control can masquerade as responsibility.
😳
Maybe surrender is knowing the difference.
Knowing what is ours and what isn't.
Trusting others enough to let them do their part.
It doesn't mean we care less.
Maybe it means we trust more.
Do what is yours.
Surrender what isn't.

P.S. Happy Labor Day! I hope you had a wonderful long weekend and are feeling refreshed for the week ahead. My amazing afternoon on a Lake Michigan beach was the perfect way to wrap up summer and welcome fall. ✌🏼
