The Power Within
I received the most fascinating gift this holiday season. An amaryllis bulb perched on a piece of birch wood. No dirt beneath it. No water around it. Just this beautiful bulb with tender green shoots already reaching upward from its crown.
The woman who gave it to me explained that everything the amaryllis needs to grow and eventually blossom already lives inside the bulb itself. All it requires is light to activate what's already there. The power is within. It just needs the right conditions to unfold.
I've been watching it closely these first days of January, mesmerized by its patient unfolding, and I can't help but think about how much this mirrors our own potential.
Over the New Year, I participated in a workshop about change, and the facilitator kept returning to this same truth: we already have the power within us. What we're really choosing is whether we'll give ourselves the light, the space, the permission to let it activate and grow.
The workshop outlined qualities that show up when we're living from that inner power. Authenticity. Resilience. Adaptability. Vision. Creativity. Generosity. These aren't things we have to manufacture or perform. They're already inside us, waiting to bloom.
But there's another path we can choose. One shaped by fear and scarcity, where we find ourselves procrastinating, over-analyzing, sabotaging our own goals, making excuses, unable to see what's possible.
I know you've felt both of these places, maybe even in the same week. I certainly have.
The beautiful truth is that we get to choose. We decide whether we're flowing toward what wants to grow in us, or whether we're allowing ourselves to stay stuck in the smaller story.
My amaryllis is still reaching. I'm watching for the bloom, trusting what's already there.
What's already inside you, just waiting for the light?
